The passing of a loved one is one of the most difficult things for a family to have to endure. June's family was no different. It was so heartening to see the tributes to her from her caring family members. She was a terrific lady and will be dearly missed. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren that honored her memory at the beautiful service can take comfort in the fact that she is now at peace.

My deepest sympathies to June's family. June told me a long time ago that she was "a tough old broad" and that she wasn't going to let anything stand in her way. I knew this last year was especially hard on her healthwise but she told me when she was ready to go, she would let God know. I guess she told him. I'll miss her honesty, her strength but most of all her sense of humor.

Dear Mom,
I couldn't attend your Memorial on Monday, but not for the reasons people may think. You always taught me to stand up straight and be strong, so I didn't want to disrespect your Memorial Service in that way. I could never say good-bye to you, so I hope that you can forgive me. I always wanted you to be proud of me; you taught me so many things, I can't even begin to mention. Most importantly, you taught me how wonderful it is to love and be loved. I know you are in a better place now, where you don't hurt anymore and you will receive the eternal rest that you so richly deserve; that belief gives me great comfort. They say there is a special bond between a mother and her son, that can never be broken, and how very true that is.
Going forward, I will try to follow your examples of strength and dignity; I'll try to be more patient with others; more tolerant of people I don't understand; and I might even start cheering for the Cubs . . . well, okay, that one might be stretching it a little bit.
I pray our Heavenly Father will one day lessen the heartache of losing you, but I know the enormous pride of being your son, will only grow stronger . . . each and every day.
I love you, Mom!

RIP Grandma June. I'll always remember all the sleep-overs at your house, playing BINGO, cruising around town and getting ice cream, watching Wheel of Fortune and Lawrence Welk, and all of the Hawkeye games. I know you'll be smiling down today when you see all of us together. Give Great Grandma a kiss for me, till we meat again. Love you!!!
